“It was my first time renting an RV and they could not have made it any easier. They were polite, professional, and very accommodating. The RV was perfect for the event I attended. It was a 4 day festival in the desert and everything was perfect. Thank you Mike and our staff for making this experience flawless and amazing. I will definitely be recommending you to everyone.”

About This Trip
Your journey begins here
This is the most unusual trip we offer, and the one we are most careful about how we describe. The Salton Sea circuit is a real place with real residents — not a tourist attraction. Salvation Mountain is Leonard Knight's 50-foot folk-art legacy and a registered 501(c)(3). Slab City is 'The Last Free Place in America,' a semi-permanent community of artists, veterans, snowbirds, and survivalists living on decommissioned WWII Marine Corps land. East Jesus is the only registered art museum in Imperial County. Bombay Beach's Biennale transformed a receding-sea ghost town into a surreal art destination. Go with respect — leave donations, pack out what you pack in, and treat residents the way you would anyone's community.

Questions about this trip
Is it safe to visit Slab City?
Yes, during daylight, with respect. Slab City is a semi-permanent residential community — not a tourist attraction. Drive slowly, don't photograph residents without permission, and don't leave trash. East Jesus is the most visitor-oriented destination in the area and welcomes guests sunup to sundown, 365 days.
Do I need a 4WD for this?
No. All the destinations on this route are accessible by standard road. Some of the Bombay Beach art installations require short walks on soft sand, but your RV stays on pavement throughout.
What about the Salton Sea smell?
The sea is ecologically stressed and can smell sulfurous depending on wind direction and season. Winter months are generally fine. Summer is both hot and olfactorily challenging — we do not run this trip between June and September.
Is Bombay Beach Biennale happening during my trip?
The Biennale is a biennial event (even years, spring). Between festivals, all the permanent installations remain — so Bombay Beach is worth visiting year-round even outside festival weekends.

“I got a chance to finally book a trailer and loved the experience start to finish. We received top tier service and they always made it a point to treat people the right way, the unit worked out great and everything went as smooth as can be! I would highly recommend giving Stress Free RVs a chance to host your next trip.”
“Rented a trailer for a camping weekend and everything went really well. Was able to pickup trailer and everything worked out well for the weekend. Generator worked good to power the AC and keep everything cool even though we were camping in the desert heat with no shade. Definitely will rent from again.”
