The PNW has four national parks and they're all fundamentally different: Olympic's rainforest, Rainier's volcano, North Cascades' granite spires, Crater Lake's caldera. Connecting them is one of the great under-the-radar long-haul trips in the country. Start in Seattle, end in Seattle, or swap endpoints with Portland for a clean one-way.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
Seattle pickup / staging
Pick up near Sea-Tac or fly into PDX. Provision at Fred Meyer or a Seattle Whole Foods.
Day 2–3
Olympic National Park
Hoh Rainforest, Ruby Beach, Hurricane Ridge. Three distinct ecosystems in one park.
Day 4–5
Mt. Rainier National Park
Paradise meadows in late July bloom. Sunrise side at dawn for the iconic reflection shot.
Day 6–7
North Cascades National Park
The "American Alps." Diablo Lake overlook, Washington Pass. Least-visited NP in the lower 48.
Day 8
Leavenworth → Portland
Optional Bavarian-village detour in Leavenworth. Drive down to Portland — brewery town, food-cart mecca.
Day 9–10
Mt. Hood & Columbia River Gorge
Multnomah Falls, Hood River, Trillium Lake reflections. Stage at Mt. Hood Village RV Resort.
Day 11–12
Crater Lake National Park
Deepest lake in America. Rim Drive (33 miles), Wizard Island. Altitude is real — take it slow.
Day 13–14
Bend → home
Bend is the unofficial capital of Oregon RV culture. Great way to close the trip before returning or one-way positioning.

Questions about this trip
Can I really do this from San Diego?
Driving from SD to Seattle is itself 3 days each way. We don't recommend it — the point of this trip is the parks, not the Oregon interstate. We coordinate one-way flights + positioning instead.
When do the mountain passes open?
North Cascades Highway (SR 20) typically reopens late April–early May. Crater Lake's Rim Drive opens mid-June to early July depending on snowpack. We confirm current status at booking.
Is a trailer OK for these parks?
Yes, but pay attention to length limits. Olympic, Rainier, and Crater Lake all have tight campground road geometries. Under 28 feet is the sweet spot.
What about bears?
All four parks have black bears. Food storage protocols are enforced and our orientation covers bear-safe practices. Bear spray is legal and recommended in Olympic and Rainier.
