Joshua Tree is the easy yes. Short drive from San Diego (about 3.5 hours), family-friendly hikes, mild fall/winter/spring weather, and a cultural scene (Pioneertown, Pappy & Harriet's, the Integratron) that gives the park real character. This is the best first RV trip for guests who want a park-quality experience without a two-week commitment.

SD → Joshua Tree
Morning pickup, arrive JT afternoon. Stage at Joshua Tree Lake RV Park or Black Rock Campground.
Day 2
Joshua Tree National Park
Hidden Valley, Keys View, Skull Rock. Sunset at Cholla Cactus Garden — non-negotiable.
Day 3
Pioneertown + Pappy & Harriet's
Pioneertown's western movie-set Main Street. Pappy & Harriet's for BBQ and live music.
Day 4
Integratron + Palm Springs
Morning sound bath at the Integratron (book ahead). Palm Springs aerial tramway, Moorten Botanical Garden.
Day 5
Return to San Diego

Best campground in Joshua Tree?
Jumbo Rocks (in-park) has the best sites but sells out months ahead. Joshua Tree Lake RV Park (private, just outside the park) has hookups and is our most-delivered location for this trip.
Do I need to go to Pioneertown?
Yes. It is 25 minutes from the park and is the area's cultural anchor. Pappy & Harriet's has hosted Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, and countless others. Book dinner reservations ahead.
Is this trip OK for first-time RVers?
This is our most-recommended first trip. Short drive, well-established campgrounds, family-friendly hikes, and enough non-park activities to fill the days when guests aren't hiking.
Can we skip driving entirely?
Yes — we deliver to Joshua Tree Lake RV Park or Black Rock. You Uber or fly into Palm Springs, we meet you at the campsite. This is our most popular delivery tier 1–2 route.
