Bombay Beach is a small town on the east shore of the Salton Sea in California's low desert, known internationally as a contemporary art destination since the Bombay Beach Biennale launched in 2015. The town features permanent art installations across abandoned lots and structures, a striking Americana-meets-decay aesthetic, and some of the most surreal desert sunsets in the state.\n\nA note from Stress Free RVs: Bombay Beach is a popular self-drive destination for our renters, but it isn't a typical delivery location for us. Bombay Beach is not an organized RV resort or campground — it's the town itself, with no hookups, no formal sites, and no on-site water or dump services. Most guests who visit Bombay Beach do so as a stop on a larger desert road trip, parking in dispersed areas or making it a day-trip from a nearby campground (Salton Sea State Recreation Area to the north, or Anza-Borrego to the west).\n\nIf Bombay Beach is on your itinerary, we recommend renting a drivable motorhome from us — pick up at our San Diego location, drive yourself to the Salton Sea, and continue on to other desert stops at your own pace. Visit in the cooler months (November-April); summer in the Salton Sea basin is brutally hot (well over 110°F is common).
